OUR VISION IS TO ...

  • promote the values of the Buddhist philosophy
  • increase the awareness of Buddhism in the Australian community
  • respect the harmonious coexistence of all communities
  • respect the values of metta (friendliness), karuna (compassion), mudhitha (patience), and upekka (unbiasedness).
In addition, we want to help people in our community to enhance the ability to think positively and deal with day-to-day life with confidence. We strongly believe that uplifting the spiritual well-being of people will make them good citizens who ethically deal with issues and respect others.

OUR PURPOSE IS TO ...

  • promote the interests and ideals of the Buddhist philosophy in Australia
  • disseminate the teachings of Lord Buddha, and for this purpose to distribute literature, conduct lectures, and seminars, and engage in other activities to increase the awareness of Buddhism in the community
  • conduct religious practices
  • promote the study of and research in Buddhism
  • conduct dhamma classes and traditional Buddhist meditation programs
  • teach languages associated with the practice of Buddhism and its teachings
  • promote respect and harmony among different Buddhist traditions, and to preserve the legacy of the Sangha
  • establish and operate a public fund to receive donations from the public and for the disbursement of such receipts, according to law and subject to the special rules applicable to such fund.

With this purpose and vision in mind, the regular services offered by Samadhi Sathkara are as follows:

  • Weekly dhamma discussion programs – in person and via zoom.
  • Monthly full day meditation/dhamma programs.
  • Monthly meditation programs for celebrating important Buddhist days such as “Vesak” and “Poson”. 
  • Annual 9 day Vidarshana meditation programs/retreats Australia wide in each State (VIC, ACT, NSW, QLD, WA).
  • Preparing for and conducting regular services of public worship, prayer sessions, chanting gathas and acknowledgment of faith on a regular basis as needed.
  • Teaching about the Theravada Buddhist beliefs and its founding principles, in particular, about the Supreme bliss of Nibbana to the devotees and to the public at large of different age groups, by way of classes, sermons, retreats as well as discussion and Q&A sessions and seminars. These are conducted in both Sinhala and English languages. 
  • Performing all forms of Theravada Buddhist religious services, ceremonies and rituals such as blessing rituals/ceremonies done in the event of a birth or a marriage or any other milestone in life and memorial services done at funerals and at remembrance of the dead services.
  • Guiding and/or mentoring novice monks and devotees who wish to become monks and wish to join the congregation in dissemination of Dhamma.
